How does it work?
The laser works by targeting tiny beams of light into the deep layers of the skin and resurfacing the skin. Only microscopic areas of skin are treated at a time, while adjacent skin is left untreated. This produces better results and quicker healing time. Older CO2 lasers would treat 100% of the surface area of the skin, resulting in lengthy healing time and unwanted side
effects.
What do I need to do prior to the treatment?
Your doctor will prescribe antibiotics to take a few days before and after treatment.
What happens on the day of the treatment?
A numbing cream is applied to the affected area for 1 hour prior to treatment. After the numbing cream is removed, additional local anesthetic is often administered. After the laser session is finished, ice is applied, followed by Aquaphor ointment.
What happens after the treatment?
During the first 24 hours after treatment, your skin may feel as though it is sunburned. Ice packs are used 5-10 minutes per hour for the first 5-6 hours after the treatment. Your skin will peel for 2-10 days and will be pink for 3 to 6 weeks. This healing all depends on how deep your treatment is. After a week or so, you can wear make-up to cover the pink.
